We crib a lot about water shortage and power cuts .....and how miserable life has become in Bangalore.

Water, which we thought is free like air, has become a rare and expensive 'element'.
We have become powerless with corrupt 'powerful' people playing politics.
AC in atleast one room has become a must.
In the early seventies and eighties, even fans were NOT mandatory in Bangalore.
Most of us have installed 'UPS/inverters' in our flats in JVV at a minimum cost of Rs.10,000. The monthly elec. bill, on an average, is always above 1k.

Can something be done? Yes, if individuals and or the Managing committee of gated communities like our BOM (Board of Managers) in JVV can make a commitment and take some initiatives.

Firstly, rain water harvesting is the most easy and cost effective. The major problem is, unfortunately, due to individual recklessness, waste water is let into pipes/drains meant for rain water and hence cleanliness/filtration has become a big issue. But this can be reversed with some planning and with the cooperation of all.

Secondly and in my opinion a better alternative power source is a combination of Solar and Wind called HYBRID. Earlier, we could never consider wind mills being installed in our back yards. Technology has made it possible at an affordable  cost.

In fact, if we install this combo system of 'SUN and WIND', the conventional elec power gets relegated to only a backup. A saving of atleast 60 to 65% on elec. bills. Clean, carbon free air we can breathe.

Contribution to the society and welfare has become a reality.
Initial cost may appear to be on the higher side. But a simple 'cost benefit' calculation will show otherwise. Done on a bigger scale covering all the flats, it works out to be much cheaper.

Instead of putting our savings in FDs and making the Banks richer, high time we put part of this FDs (why not take loans against our FDs?) in this 'hybrid' alternative source of energy that assures better health and happiness.

Think about this.
